An accredited New Zealand journalist says she was escorted out of the final APEC media session in Sydney because Chinese officials felt “uneasy” about her presence, reported The Canberra Times (11/9/2007, p.4).

Security fears shouted questions: Auckland-based Sarah Matheson, a journalist for the Epoch Times, was taken aside by security guards during the final leaders’ declaration photograph opportunity amid fears that she would shout questions at China’s President Hu Jintao.

Newspaper not welcome in China: The Epoch Times is a global newspaper and website that reports extensively on human rights issues inside China. Matheson had been ferried to Government House for the photograph opportunity from the media centre in Darling Harbour, along with other accredited journalists.

Officials “complained”: According to the Epoch Times website, a security guard approached Matheson, 24, and said Chinese officials had complained about her being at the ceremony.
