A chart showing standard deviation in the electricity pool price per quarter contained in a report “Securing Private Investment in New Generation in New South Wales” prepared by Morgan Stanley for the Owen Inquiry also demonstrated the commissioning of gas-fired peakers during 2001 and 2002.

CSR plans sale of energy assets; or does it? Conglomerate faces asbestos liabilities as it expands its Queensland ethanol and electricity interests

CSR chief executive Jerry Maycock had given his strongest indication yet that he is amenable to a break-up of the conglomerate, acknowledging the longer-term sense in separating its “eclectic mix of assets”. Analysts also point out that energy is emerging as a common area for the company’s sugar and building products arms. The sugar business is developing into areas including ethanol and electricity generation while the building products arm is growing its energy-efficient products range, reported The Australian Financial Review, (11/9/2007, p.20).

Origin plans 1,000MW CCGT plant at Mortlake, Vic: gas cost at $3.23/GJ

Origin plans Quarantine conversion to single 170MW unit: extra 75MW for SA, gas price at $3.90/GJ

Origin Energy previously announced its intention to convert the Quarantine Power Station units into a single 170MW combined cycle unit, and the project received development approval and the conversion of this unit could take from 18 to 24 months to complete from the time of the decision to proceed, according to ‘Fuel resource, new entry and generation costs in the NEM’, a report to NEMMCO by ACIL Tasman (27/3/2007).
